Projects - 8th Grade

5/1/2015: The 8th graders are working on a PERSUASIVE unit right now and will be beginning debates shortly. We will be conducting "MINI DEBATES" in class, in teams on the topics THEY have come up with. It's all pretty exciting!

Upcoming Weekly or Daily Assignments:

7th Grade:

Next week, May 4th, we will be completing an assessment on "inferences," and "citing text evidence." The students are familiar with these two concepts and have worked diligently on these all year! One of my favorite inference examples is:
- I have been to Fenway Park. Fenway Park is in Boston.

Therefore, you can "infer" that I have been to Boston. The person is not outright stating that they have been in Boston; but they ARE stating they have been to Fenway, which is in Boston.

8th Grade:

Next week, May 4th, we will be completing an assessment on "inferences," "citing text evidence," and "Informative Writing." The students are familiar with all of these concepts and have written many pieces similar to what they will be writing this week.

- One thing to remember is that INFORMATIVE writing is NOT Argumentative or Persuasive. It is strictly explaining a topic. I will ask students to prepare a topic ahead of time, so that they can gather information on their topic and write "on-demand" in class.

The 8th Grade class of 2014 created 6-word Memoirs. It took me a very long time, but I made a video using their work and their photo pairings for their memoirs. They worked incredibly hard on these memoirs. I am so proud of them! I know this years memoirs will be amazing as well! Take a look at the video!
